Episode 114: Why Star Trek: The Next Generation Still Matters, 30 Years Later

Happy birthday, Star Trek: The Next Generation! It's been 30 years since we first met the crew of the Enterprise-D, who in turn introduced us to Worf always getting his butt kicked (despite being head of security), Troi's only intermittently-helpful telepathic abilities, Q, the Ferengi, and -- of course -- The Picard Maneuver. The Picard Maneuver is forever…

In this episode of TR3, Scott and Phil look back on our first Next Gen memories, our favorite things about the show, how much it improved beyond the pilot “Encounter at Farpoint” and why the series is still so special on its 30th anniversary.

Episode 113: Star Trek: Discovery Lives!

It’s finally here -- Star Trek’s return to TV. Scott and Phil dive deep into the series premiere of Star Trek: Discovery as only they can, with a review full of high praise, nerdy complaints, cheap shots, and more…

That’s right -- we talk full spoilers about the first two episodes of Discovery, “The Vulcan Hello” and “Battle at the Binary Stars.” Yes, this is a Star Trek show that managed to not show its titular ship at all in its first two hours… are we O.K. with that?

We also delve into our thoughts on the new characters First Officer Michael Burnham, Captain Georgiou, and Lt. Saru, what the deal is with these crazy-looking new Klingons, why it’s maybe O.K. that the tech and costumes look so different from what was established in “The Cage,” and much more.

And Scott regales us with tales from the Discovery premiere party in Hollywood where he hobnobbed with Jonathan Frakes, two Daxes, a Nog, and many other Trek luminaries. Name dropper! Plus, of course, we cart out another Red Shirt… right out the airlock, that is!

Episode 112: That Time We Visited the Star Trek: Discovery Set

It's a special-ish episode of Transporter Room 3 this week, as Scott beams in with a report from the set of Star Trek: Discovery. Did he go on the bridge and hang out in the transporter room? You bet your sweet Terran butt, he did.

We also (finally) review TNG's "The Masterpiece Society." One of us kinda sorta liked it, one of us didn't. And we have some reader mail, some weird news of the week, and two Red Shirts from the Delta Quadrant (RIP) too burnt (literally) for a photon torpedo casket…
