Great episode guys. I really liked the interview with Hannah. I also wondered why they could not beam the away team back at will. I don't recall there being a dialogue explaining why specifically they could not beam them out but I do recall the explanation that this S.31 HQ is a former prison making it impossible to scan and therefore also get a transporter lock. You can beam in, but not out. I imagine all prisons would have such features in an age where transporters have been around for a long time. I would therefore presume that Michael and Nahn would have to actually deactivate the sensor blockers to leave. It might also explain why Disco couldn't beam Airiam from the vacuum of space straight to the brig and keep her there until they get Control out of here systems. The sensors blockers extend beyond station and would take too long to deactivate and coordinate such a beam sequence before Airiam passed. That's my thoughts on the matter. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteYes, that does make sense, and I kind of figured as much. But I think the episode would've been served by a line of dialogue that just laid that out...
DeleteI predict that Ariam's memories that have been archived to the ship may serve as the foundation for the Disco computer becoming the self-aware AI in the future that we see in the Short Trek Calypso.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your prediction that Michael becomes/is the Red Angel. That's why the Angel connects to Spock. It would be cool though if the Red Angel was actually Bashir from the future. The whole concept of Control being the all knowing and seeing AI lurking in the background of the federation was a concept flushed out in the book Section 31:Control. Julian Bashir is the protagonist that tries to take down Control in a non-canonical tale set over 100 years in the future. Alexander Siddig could make quite the impactful cameo on this show. I hope the Trek writers keep tying in concepts from the books to help connect the content where it is possible, especially for "The Picard Show" but that's just some fanboy dreams.
ReplyDeleteSiddig coming in would be CRAZY, but somehow I doubt that happens. I think CBS would want more of a Picard or Janeway, you know?
DeleteFor sure. If the Red Angel is not Michael from the future, Picard makes a very compelling second choice. This would allow CBS to tie in the new show. Moreover, Picard also has a connection to Spock (and arguably moreso with Sarek). We know from previous Trek episodes that at some point post-Nemesis Starfleet ends up fighting temporal wars and also policing the timeline. Perhaps that's the premise of the Picard show (a la Department of Temporal Investigations or the Temporal Integrity Commission?!
