Episode 187: Michael Chabon Breaks Down the Picard Season Finale’s Big Twists

Star Trek: Picard's first season finale ended with one hell of a twist -- a couple of them, actually -- calling back to things in two other Patrick Stewart movies: X3 and Star Trek: Nemesis!

We’re not sure if that's a good thing or what, but we unpack the episode with help from our good pal from TrekCore.com, Ken Reilly.

And then Picard showrunner Michael Chabon himself beams in to discuss the finale and the season overall for a post-mort interview! And we also have some Altan Soong-centric Reader Mail this week, and another Red Shirt -- one of our highest ranking ever.

So replicate a cup of decaf Earl Grey, curl up with Spot 2 and listen to the new TR3 now!

Picard's first season has given us many surprising and interesting additions to the Final Frontier, but this week's first half of the season finale, "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1," is A LOT. From another [BLANK] to an evil [BLANK], we unpack everything happening here.

But first, we open with some good news and kind thoughts from our Reader Mailbag as we welcome our youngest new listeners! And, of course, a Red Shirt beams on down and gets an eyeful (pun SO intended).

Put down your French fries and peppermint ice cream, tune out the Admonition and listen now to the newest ep of TR3!

With Phil still away on Risa, special guest host Matt Fowler -- yes, THE Matt Fowler -- takes Phil’s left-of-center seat for the week, bringing his casual, normal person’s amount of Star Trek knowledge to Transporter Room 3!

We dig into this week’s episode of Picard, hit the Reader Mailbag for a potential Star Trek: First Contact connection to the show, ponder the eternal struggle between the Borg and the Smiths, and, of course, pay tribute to our Red Shirt(s) of the Week. There are a lot of them this week.

So plug in your Borg Queen spinal tubes, shout “Locutus” to the first person you see walking past you, and listen to the latest episode of TR3!

This episode of Transporter Room 3 is posting the same day that Phil is getting married -- while naked, of course, in Ten Forward! -- so special guest host Dr. Arnold T. Blumberg beams in to fill (phil?) in for Phil! We discuss why Arnold loves Picard but really couldn’t get into Discovery before diving in to the return of some of our favorite Next Generation characters.

And Hugh actor Jonathan Del Arco enters the queencell and uses the Sikarian spatial trajector to visit TR3 for a chat about his beloved character and the big, big moments for him in “Nepenthe.”

Of course, we’ve also got Reader Mail and a bunch of Red Shirts as well, so light up the Riker pizza oven, practice your Viverna language skills, and listen to the latest episode of Transporter Room 3 now!
