Episode 177: Star Wars Trek

It's our season finale of TR3, so we're doing something a bit different -- talking about Star Wars!

Transporter Room 3, Episode 177

O.K., we also discuss Star Trek, including the new animated Short Treks -- the fairy tale-esque "The Girl Who Made the Stars" and the Looney Tunes inspired “Ephraim and Dot” -- plus Picard Season 2 news, and more.

But then we also veer into Star Wars territory to dig in on The Rise of Skywalker, directed by Star Trek’s own J.J. Abrams! Did Phil like it? Did Scott hate it? Did Phil hate it and Scott like it? We’ll give you a hint: It’s some combination of the above…

And then, of course, we’ve got our latest Red Shirt of the Week, who in his way helped Geordi get the Chief Engineering gig. The poor bastard.

So light your saber, adjust your Starfleet tunic, and listen now to Transporter Room 3. And may the Trek be with you!

We've been obsessing over the new trailer (Data! Seven of Nine!) ever since it dropped at Comic-Con over the weekend, and we're here to break down some bits in it you might have missed. We also got our first look at the Star Trek: Lower Decks animated series and new Short Treks featuring the return of Captain Pike’s crew AND the latest on Discovery Season 3 -- and you bet we have OPINIONS on all of that.

Speaking of Picard, our Red Shirt comes from the good captain's last battle with the Borg. It's a good one.

So open your comm badge case, pour a cup of Earl Grey, hot, and listen now to the new TR3!

New year, new episode of Transporter Room 3! And new Short Trek (with Harry Mudd!) Also, an anniversary for a not new thing…

2019 is not just the year of Replicants and umbrellas with florescent bars for handles, it's also the 26th anniversary of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. January 3, 1993, was a special day for Scott and Phil, and this week we revisit why that is and share a bit of behind-the-scenes info you didn't know about DS9. (Like that time Quark visited Regis and Kathie Lee. Because the '90s.)

We also review the new and final Short Trek, “The Escape Artist” -- Harry Mudd's back and it's good! -- as we gird ourselves for the Discovery Season 2 premiere. And, of course, another Red Shirt bites the dust by way of Vulcan serial killer. (Happy New Year, everyone! Ha.) So replicate yourself a warm cup of raktajino and listen now to the new ep of TR3!

This week we snapshot our reactions to the newest Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 trailer (why is Spock writing crazy things on the floor?!), review the latest Short Trek, "The Brightest Star" -- AKA The One All About Saru -- and, if you're looking for a last-minute holiday gift, we discuss the Discovery Season 1 Blu-ray.

As always, another Red Shirt visits us from the Final Frontier -- this one, though, hails from a time before the Final Frontier was even really a thing (hint!). So put on your black Starfleet badges, pour a glass of Aunt Adele's hot milk toddy recipe and listen now to the newest ep of TR3!

Episode 145: Star Trek Does The Odyssey With “Calypso”

A Pulitzer Prize winner beaming into TR3? Make it so!

Transporter Room 3, Episode 145

This week, author Michael Chabon himself stops by to discuss his new Short Treks installment, “Calypso,” as well as what it’s like working on the upcoming Picard show. Plus, Phil and Scott dive into the episode too, which jumps a thousand years into Star Trek’s future to give us an outer-space retelling of Homer’s The Odyssey… or at least the part involving the nymph of the title!

We bathe this episode with all the praise, while also speculating about what it means for Discovery and her crew’s future. And Chabon himself tells us about how he’d like to continue the story by heading in a few very interesting directions…

All that, plus a Red Shirt who has liquid plastic for blood! So cut off your arm and then reattach it perfectly, evolve your computer a thousand years, and sing Muse, because the next episode of Transporter Room 3 is here!

This week, we offer our two cents on the new Star Trek animated series Lower Decks and the latest Short Treks trailer (what is up with that time jump?!). Then we shrink down to half the size of a comm badge and dive into one of the most entertaining hours of Star Trek ever. Don't believe us? This week's episode just might change your mind.

And another Red Shirt beams on down, with ties to the Nexus, too. Oh, and check out why you need to get at least TWO copies of the new book Stellar Cartography.

So stop laughing at Dr. Bashir and the Chief being a few centimeters shorter than they used to be, and start listening now to the latest episode of TR3!

We also chime in on the new Spock, who looks like he just rolled out of Middle-earth, as well as the new New York Comic-Con trailer for Discovery Season 2. And thanks to Scott braving NYCC, we have a few exclusive interviews with Discovery cast and crew, including showrunner Alex Kurtzman, stars Sonequa Martin-Green and Michelle Yeoh, and producer Heather Kadin. Stewart and CBS Trek head honcho Alex Kurtzman made the announcement at the Las Vegas Star Trek con today, confirming all that FOMO that we had about not being there in the first place. We delve into this amazing news in our latest episode, but that’s not all…

We also (finally) discuss those Short Treks that were revealed at Comic-Con a couple of weeks back, as well as the trailer for Star Trek: Discovery Season 2. Check out those threads on Captain Pike! And of course we have a Red Shirt of the Week to dissect (no, not that way). And guess what? It’s Captain Picard!
