The late then-showrunner Maurice Hurley makes his first on-camera appearance since 1988 to talk about his time on the Enterprise -- and he's still mad as hell after all these years. Is this "warts and all" chronicle of the birth of one of your fav TV shows a must-see? Listen and find out.

Plus, we discuss Idris Elba’s hints about his "groundbreaking" Star Trek Beyond character, we’ve got our latest giveaway (pop-up Star Trek!), and our Red Shirt from Wrath of Khan literally drops in this week. So crank up your Winamp players and listen now to Episode 82 of Transporter Room 3!

Episode 81: Exploring the Autobiography of James T. Kirk

In this week’s episode of TR3, we delve into the story of one of the most important fictional characters in the history of humankind -- Captain Kirk!

With his new book The Autobiography of James T. Kirk set to be released next week, author David A. Goodman beams in to talk about how he filled in the blanks in the Starfleet legend’s life story while also connecting the dots to the many adventures we’ve seen Kirk have onscreen. Along the way, David also recounts his time writing the Futurama episode “Where No Fan Has Gone Before” which introduced The Original Series crew to the Planet Express gang in classic (and hilarious) fashion.

David also offers up his favorite doomed Starfleet patsy for our Red Shirt of the Week, the needlessly energetic dingbat Lieutenant Mallory from the episode “The Apple.”

And be sure to listen for our giveaway this week for your chance to win a copy of The Autobiography of James T. Kirk!

Episode 80: The Crying Vulcan and His Starship Commander

Welcome back, listeners. We're fresh from our recent visit to the set of Star Trek Beyond (more on that later). But as promised, first we have to get all emotional with our review of "Sarek"!

This week we shed a tear over that great TNG episode, which brought the beloved TOS character to Picard’s Enterprise. This episode of Next Generation has everything: a bar fight, Picard yelling at Riker, Wesley really yelling at Geordi and more -- Bendii Syndrome for everyone!

Plus, Patrick Stewart tells us whether or not he’d ever put the Starfleet duds on again, and a very special Red Shirt glows his silver eyes at us. He truly went "where no man has gone before" (hint)!

But about Star Trek Beyond… While we can't say much about our visit to Justin Lin's first Trek movie set, the few things we can say you're gonna want to hear.

Episode 79: Why Don’t the Star Trek Movies Go to Comic-Con?

And we’re back, putting into spacedock for a little R&R after a busy week at San Diego Comic-Con. But while we were attending the annual nerd prom this year, we couldn’t help but wonder… why isn’t Star Trek at SDCC?

Sure, Trek is there in various forms, but the big movie aspect of the franchise has rarely shown its (Vulcan or otherwise) head at the con -- at least in the modern era. In this episode of TR3, we discuss this fascinating dilemma, while also delving into the current status of Star Trek 3, a.k.a. Star Trek Beyond. The film is well into production now, and we’ve got the latest on it!

All that, plus we memorialize yet another Red Shirt of the Week, though this time around our guy may not have actually stayed dead…

So head to the Battle Bridge, set phasers for “listen,” and get ready for the latest episode of Transporter Room 3!

Episode 78: Happy 25th Anniversary, Locutus of Borg!

Time to feel old, everyone! "The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1" turned 25 last week, and in honor of Lt. Shelby and Locutus hitting the quarter-century mark, we celebrate the legacy of one the best Treks ever.

We also mourn/celebrate another legacy this week, that of the late James Horner -- the man responsible for providing the soundtrack for many of our childhoods.

And as always, we bury another Red Shirt -- this time, one who likes blond tactical experts and watching Picard get his Prefontaine on.

So Spotify some "Wrath of Khan," modulate those shield frequencies (random settings, keep them changing -- don't give them time to adapt!) and listen now to the latest ep of Transporter Room 3!

We also dive into the Mailbag to share one listener's live-tweeting of old Transporter Room 3 episodes. (Wha?!) And of course, no episode would be complete without a visit from a Red Shirt. Today's used to call Voyager home, until a space cloud killed him…

And Star Trek loves time travel, and Voyager's Season 5 episode "Relativity" is one of Trek's most entertaining trips through time ever. It's got Seven, a dry-docked Voyager and (literal) time bombs. Why is this episode so good? Listen and found out.

"Relativity" also gives us our Red Shirt of the Week -- who suffers from a case of one too many quantum leaps.

Relativity

So put on your Star-Lord headphones, watch out for temporal psychosis and listen to the latest episode of TR3!
